OLC Purpose and Objectives

The Children's Services Division is devoted to assisting children's services providers in their development as professionals and in helping all children achieve their highest potential through the use and enjoyment of library services.

Unit Objectives

In addition to the goals and objectives in the Ohio Library Council Long-Range Plan,

1. To identify and address issues relative to developing children's services in public libraries and to the changing needs of the children and adults who work with them. To offer continuing education opportunities for library staff directly related to these issues.
2. Our division will continue to support and encourage developmentally-appropriate best practices in libraries through OLC/State Library's Ready to Read initiative.
3. To support the Helping Books Connection which promotes techniques of readers' advisory with children's literature in situations involving crisis or emotional growth; and to encourage contribution and maintenance of the online database.
4. Extend our web presence with “Tip of the Month” and material to support the Ready to Read initiative.

Current Task Forces:

Tip of the Month – Chair – Jay Wise
Ready to Read - Regional Trainers, Chair - Krista Tokarz
