OLC Purpose and Objectives

The Children's Services Division is devoted to assisting children's services providers in their development as professionals and in helping all children achieve their highest potential through the use and enjoyment of library services.

1. To identify and address issues relative to developing children's services in public libraries and to the changing needs of the children and adults who work with them. To offer continuing education opportunities for library staff directly related to these issues.

2. To continue to support and encourage developmentally-appropriate best practices in Ohio libraries by promoting and publicizing Ready to Read and related early literacy initiatives.

3. To support the Helping Books Connection which promotes techniques of readers' advisory with children's literature in situations involving crisis or emotional growth; and to encourage contribution and promote the online database.

4. To extend our web presence on the OLC web site.

5. To update members on Children's Division activities through Tip of the Quarter, at least one email blast and two newsletters in 2010.
