Stephen Abram is a leading international librarian and lighthouse thinker in the North American library community. He leverages his extensive experience in library technology and trend forecasting, new product conceptualization, and market development to create products and services that meet the needs of library directors, library staff, and library users. He is a frequent keynote speaker on issues that affect libraries, their communities, and librarians, telling his audiences to prepare for a future in which the “dominance of educated persons who decode and internalize text well is ending.” Abram was named by Library Journal in 2004 as one of the key people who are influencing the future of libraries and librarianship.

Susan Nutter, Library Journal's 2005 Librarian of the Year

Susan Nutter, the 2005 Library Journal's Librarian of the Year, is the Vice Provost and Director of Libraries at North Carolina State University who, according to the award citation “has taken a middling library and made it into a model for the entire profession.” In Nutter's view, the most important factor in building a library is the people. “It isn't what you are going to do," she says, “but who is going to be your staff, that is important.” Her unfailing commitment to hire the best people and devote care and attention to their continuing professional development reflects her core belief that staff development is the most effective management tool for library building. She is an optimistic advocate of the future of libraries “If we act and don't allow ourselves to think that we have some entitlement to what we do.”
