OLC Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of the Library Accounting Division is to address the special interests and continuing education needs of library accounting personnel, and others interested in the accounting function within the library; to provide certified annual continuing education in conjunction with the Treasurer of State's office of Center for Public Investment Management (CPIM) as required; to update the Ohio Public Library Accounting Handbook as needed; to work with the Auditor of State's office and other agencies on problems and issues in library accounting; to provide publications on areas of interest.

•  Promote the professional image of library accounting personnel.
•  Promote membership and interest in the Library Accounting Division.
•  Periodically update the Ohio Public Library Accounting Handbook.
•  To work with the OLC executive office and appropriate government agencies to develop continuing education for library accounting personnel.
•  Provide networking opportunities.
•  Provide a means of communication within the library community.

Goals

  • Present a two-day training session for required annual continuing education as certified by the CPIM.
  • Provide an annual meeting/orientation to library finances for new library fiscal officers.
  • Update the Library Accounting Division Brochure.
  • Prepare at least two newsletters each year.
  • Continue updating and revising the Ohio Public Library Accounting Handbook as needed.
  • Continue to work with the OLC Office to include fiscal officers in regular email communications, and with legislative issues affecting library finances.
  • Work with the Auditor of State's office to continue to address any issues with GAAP Look-A-Like financial reporting and auditing issues.
  • Work with the State Library of Ohio to continue to improve the financial and benefits sections of the annual statistical report.
  • Increase Library Accounting Division membership and recruit new faces for the LAD Action Council.
