OLC Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of the Management and Administration Division is to serve its members by creating opportunities to exchange ideas and information, and to build skills and knowledge in the following areas: Leadership, Planning, Management Principles, Trends, and obtaining and allocating funds

Unit Objectives

1. Survey members to determine how the division might better meet their needs

a. use survey results to develop at least one on-line resource to further membership professional development

b. investigate list of contacts willing to be a resource in responding to specific management issues

2. Initiate and maintain regular contact with division members

a. welcome new division members through direct contact/email from the division coordinator

b. email division members to remind them of division services twice a year

3. Be proactive and involve membership in professional development

a. Gather information for providing on-line resources to develop useful tools to aid in professional growth.

4. Collaborate with OLC in providing continuing education and leadership training

a. investigate collaborating with OLC on a recurring manager update and new manager training program

b. utilize survey results to develop targeted program for growing managers

5. Look for opportunities to collaborate with other management leadership organizations

a. continue collaboration with LAMA

b. other professional and leadership groups (e.g. Library Leadership network)

6. Use appropriate current technologies to communicate information about trends and issues in library leadership and management

a. market MAD blog to division membership

b. provide RSS access to MAD blog

c. request OLC to place a link from OLC MAD web page to MAD blog

d. encourage division members to participate in the MAD blog
