Module Ethics
Consider the implications of reference work in a democratic society.
Professional Ethics
All library users have the right to access the information
available in the library. All users have the right to confidentiality and the right to be
treated fairly, objectively, and equally.
What You Will Learn in Module 6
Ethics are not optional! What are the issues in providing
reference service equally and fairly? What is involved in privacy and confidentiality?
What is free access and the Freedom to Read? What are the implications of reference work
in a democratic society? Module 6 helps you understand the library's responsibility to the
community.
What's New? Virtual Policies and New Laws
Providing privacy and confidentiality for library users requires establishing policies for remote services and vigilant attention to new laws such as the USA PATRIOT Act.
