Purpose and Objectives |
The purpose of the Outreach and Special Services Division is to identify and assess outreach opportunities and give guidance for service to populations including disabled, aged, institutionalized, disadvantaged, children and other groups.
1. Market our division
Plan one or two highly publicized division meetings at times Outreach staff would be available. Plan some peer education or networking opportunities as a part of the meeting.
Send out meeting agenda to all division members.
Send welcome letters and minutes to members.
Continue Outreach Tip of the Month
Review OLC Web site; look for additional ways to reach Outreach staff that do not have regular access to

Bookmobile Task Force – (TBA)
Library Services to Older Adults Task Force – (TBA)
Outreach Services to Children Task Force – (TBA)
Library Services to Older Adults Task Force
- Established in 1978
- Publishes information to libraries utilizing educational flyers, bibliographies and bookmarks
- Develops programs for older adults through electronic publications such as Elderberries and at program events including the Outreach Showcase, OLC Chapter Conferences and statewide conferences.
Bookmobile Task Force
This task force provides support and leadership to libraries maintaining and planning bookmobile service for their patrons.
- Established in 1989
- Provides staff development at bookmobile conferences, OLC Chapter Conferences and other statewide conferences.
Children's Outreach Task Force
This task force is committed to providing the best reading and library resources to children of all ages throughout our communities. By going where children are, children's outreach introduces children to wonderful children's materials and services to delight, engage, and promote literacy.
- Established in 2002
- Spotlights best practices in outreach to children
- Presents programming workshops on ways to meet the outreach needs of children
- Works closely with OLC's Children's Services Division
- Provides ideas for training for care givers
- Lists contacts for finding local care providers and other community agencies.
