OLC Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of the Reference and Information Services Division is to provide a forum for the discussion and dissemination of reference service issues and concerns, and to provide continuing education and training opportunities for Ohio's reference librarians and reference support staff so that they can better assist all of Ohio's library customers in the effective use of online and traditional information and reference services.

Unit Objectives

In addition to the goals and objectives in the Ohio Library Council Long-Range Plan,

  1. Increase communication with division members
    a. Publish interactive newsletters showcasing the 2008 conferences, RISD news, practical information and tips, and other pertinent items
    b. Broadcast e-mails to stimulate conversation
    c. Distribute surveys to gain additional insight and opinion from members
  2. Submit program proposals for all five Chapter Conferences and each of the 2008 Conferences, with a strong push to submit 10 exceptional programs for the Services to Adults Conference
  3. Release the final two RISD bookmarks, revising the text to direct members to division merchandise available through CafePress.com
  4. Place at least two competitors for each open seat on RISD Action Council
  5. Recruit at least two RISD members to volunteer to staff the display table at the 2008 Expo
  6. Investigate the desire/need for an RISD retreat
  7. Thoroughly review the ORE and increase awareness to the membership
