OLC Purpose and Objectives

The purpose of the Small Libraries Division is to represent the interests of and provide a forum for administrators, staff members, and trustees of small libraries on issues of particular concern to small libraries in Ohio.

A small library as defined by the Small Libraries Division includes but is not limited to libraries that meet the following criteria – (revised 11/04)
•  An operating budget under $1,000,000.
•  A service population of less than 20,000.

Unit Objectives

In addition to the goals and objectives in the Ohio Library Council Long-Range Plan,

1. Sponsor a one-day stand alone event on HR for small libraries. This event will focus on the unique challenges faced by libraries without HR professionals on staff.
2. Plan and implement three additional Director's Forums in the NW, SE, SW.
3. Sponsor programs attractive to small libraries at each of the conferences planned for 2008.
4. Two newsletter issues will be published online in March and November.
5. Promote small library careers to new librarians.
6. Seek division members in SE and SW regions of the state.
