Purpose and Objectives |
The purpose of the Technical Services Division is to gather, organize and share among the division members and with other OLC members, information concerning the acquisition, cataloging, classification, processing, and preservation of library materials in all formats, giving particular attention to new technology which may affect the technical services.
- To promote excellence by offering continuing education opportunities on Technical Service to the library community.
- Submit program ideas for OLC educational venues as needed.
- develop content for the upcoming OLC online Resource Center.
- To provide forums for exchanging ideas and knowledge and to address changing technology and standards by publishing four TechKNOW issues every year.
- To collaborate in innovative ways with at least one other division, or committee of the Ohio Library Council and/or other state library groups.
- To promote and encourage active involvement of the Technical Services Division membership.
- Send quarterly communication to the division membership via TechKNOW.
- Contact all new members of the division to welcome them and encourage participation.
- Invite Technical Services Division members to submit program ideas and present programs at OLC educational venues or submit articles for TechKNOW.
- Work with the OLC Director of Professional Development to provide education and training of Technical Service staff at all levels of core competencies.
