Purpose and Objectives |
The purpose of the Technical Services Division is to gather, organize and share among the division members and with other OLC members, information concerning the acquisition, cataloging, processing, and preservation of all types of library materials, giving particular attention to new technology which may affect the technical services area.
Unit Objectives
In addition to the goals and objectives of the Ohio Library Council Long-Range Plan,
1. To promote excellence by offering continuing education opportunities for Technical Services Division members.
a. Create and initiate a biennial multi-day Technical Services retreat.
b. Submit programs for OLC sponsored events, conferences, conventions, and Chapter conferences.
2. To provide forums for exchanging ideas and knowledge and to address changing technology and standards.
a.Offer four TechKNOW issues every year.
3. To collaborate in innovative ways with other divisions of the Ohio Library Council and other state library groups.
a. Partner with at least one other OLC division to develop program content.
4. To promote and encourage active involvement of the Technical Services Division membership.
a. Send quarterly communication to the division membership via e-mail.
b. Contact all new members of the division to welcome them and encourage participation.
c. Invite Technical Services Division members to submit program ideas and present programs at OLC educational venues.
5. To monitor and advocate for quality technical services education, training, and continuing education in Ohio.
a. Discuss the current level of formal technical services instruction within Ohio.
b. Promote technical services as one of the core competencies for librarianship in Ohio.
