Purpose and Objectives |
The purpose of the Technical Services Division is to gather, organize and share among the division members and with other OLC members, information concerning the acquisition, cataloging, processing, and preservation of all types of library materials, giving particular attention to new technology which may affect the technical services area.
1. To promote excellence by offering continuing education opportunities for Technical Services Division members.
a. Submit program ideas for OLC educational venues as needed.
b. Submit content for the OLC online Resource Center.
2. To provide forums for exchanging ideas and knowledge and to address changing technology and standards by publishing four TechKNOW issues every year.
3. To collaborate in innovative ways with at least one other division of the Ohio Library Council and/or other state library groups.
4. To promote and encourage active involvement of the Technical Services Division membership.
a. Send quarterly communication to the division membership via TechKNOW.
b. Contact all new members of the division to welcome them and encourage participation.
c. Invite Technical Services Division members to submit program ideas and present programs at OLC educational venues or submit articles for TechKNOW.
d. Encourage technical services staff of all education and experience levels to continue to develop their technical services skills.
5. To monitor and advocate for quality technical services education, training, and continuing education by working with the OLC Director of Professional Development.

The TechKNOW archives are password protected for OLC members. TechKNOW is published online by the Technical Services Division of the Ohio Library Council. For more information or to submit articles or book/product reviews, contact Margaret Maurer.
