This managerial leadership program is designed to develop and enhance the skills of library leaders. It will be an intensive, experiential program.
Participants in the program will engage in a variety of activities designed to enhance their self-awareness and abilities in the following areas of leadership competency:
embracing and being a catalyst for meaningful change
adopting current concepts about effective leadership
understanding leadership styles, preferences, values and strengths
clarifying personal vision
learning to see yourself as others see you
defining the link between mindset and leadership effectiveness
building commitment through coaching and communication skills
recognizing the organizational context of strategic thinking
Day 1. Managerial Leadership Learning Objectives
understand the concept and practice of managerial leadership
recognize the similarities and differences between management and leadership
review and discuss a model of managerial decision styles
Day 2. Developing and Leading Groups and Teams Learning Objectives
explore the dynamics of organizational change
know the key practices for coaching staff and building commitment to change
learn more about communication as a key tool for leadership
Speaker Information
Maureen Sullivan is an organization development consultant whose practice focuses on the delivery of consulting and training services to libraries and other information organizations. She has more than 25 years of experience as a consultant on organization development, strategic planning, leadership development, introducing and managing organizational change, organization and work redesign, establishment of staff development and learning programs for today's workplace, creating a work environment that supports diversity, revision of position classification and compensation systems and the identification and development of competencies. Her experience includes 12 years as the human resources administrator in the libraries at the University of Maryland (1977-1980) and at Yale University (1983-1991). She has a long history with the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) and was instrumental in the design and delivery of several of ARL’s management training programs.
Ms. Sullivan is a past president (1998-1999) of the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL). During her term as President, she helped establish the ACRL/Harvard Leadership Institute in partnership with the Harvard Graduate School of Education. She is now a member of the faculty for this annual program. She was president of the Library Administration and Management Association for the 1988-89 term. In 1999, she received the Elizabeth Futas Catalyst for Change Award from the American Library Association.
She received her B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Maryland in 1974 and her M.A. degree in Library Science from the University of Maryland in 1976.

Morning coffee and lunch each day will be provided.
If you are an Ohio Certified Public Librarian, this event counts as 12 credit hours toward re-certification.
