The OLC, in conjunction with Structured Employee Benefits of Ohio (SEBO),
offers libraries the opportunity to offer cost-effective benefits to their
employees.
Created in January 2002, BenefitsPool provides a full-range of benefits to
Ohio’s
public libraries while providing excellent customer service and support. BenefitsPool
offers a “one-point-of-contact” system for all member libraries
and their staffs for employee benefits, claims, service issues and compliance
requirement
issues.
BenefitsPool products and services include:
- health insurance
- group term life insurance
- accidental death & disability insurance
- voluntary life insurance
- long-term care insurance
Most products are available on an “employee-paid” basis, allowing
libraries to offer extended benefits opportunities to employees
at discounted group rates.
Libraries that have to come under the umbrella of the full benefits
package of OLC’s BenefitsPool have experienced significant
savings. Some examples of how SEBO and BenefitsPool have assisted
libraries
and provided considerable
savings include:
- A library in southwestern Ohio, whose insurance is provided
by American Community Mutual, saved over $1,000 a month without
having to
move carriers or switch plans.
- A northeastern Ohio metropolitan library was
originally given a renewal of 15%. SEBO was able to negotiate that down to
less than 3%,
thus saving the library
around $50,000 a year.
- A large library in southeastern Ohio
reduced its rates by almost $30,000 a year by implementing a higher deductible
with a hospital
GAP plan.
- A small library in northern Ohio, with only two employees on the medical
plan, saved almost $400 a month by switching from Fortis to
Anthem.
- A large library just east of Columbus saved nearly $25,000 a year by
switching medical carriers from United HealthCare to Medical
Mutual of Ohio.
- A large library in the northern part of Ohio was about to lose
coverage through their local school district and would have been responsible
for nearly $100,000
in retroactive fees SEBO was able to quickly move the library
to United HealthCare, thus maintaining its current benefits and avoiding
payment of the retroactive
fee.
SEBO has saved OLC BenefitsPool members an average of almost
$100 per employee per month on their total benefits package.
In addition,
participants in
the voluntary products have seen savings of around 65% on
their insurance policies.
