Ohio Public Librarian Certification is the process that recognizes
individual librarians who have met minimum standards established
by the Ohio Library Council. An individual who meets these standards
and has successfully completed the certification process is recognized
in the State of Ohio as a Certified Public Librarian.
At its meeting on May 13 the OLC Board of Directors approved a number of changes to the Ohio Public Librarian Certification program. Please note the following changes to the Public Librarian Certification program, effective July 1, 2011:
- The number of contact hours needed for recertification have been reduced to 75 contact hours in a five-year period.
- There are no limits on the maximum number of contact hours that can be earned as "in house" library provided training or the number of contact hours which qualify as "technology" hours.
- A new "Emeritus" certification category has been created for professional librarians who have retired from an Ohio library.
- The cost of certification has been changed to:
- Initial Certification - $25 for OLC individual members/$50 for non-members;
- Recertification - $25 for OLC individual members/$35 for non-members
