 Welcome!
We all have seen the news items confirming what we in public libraries already know: in times of a downturn in the economy, people rely on their public libraries more than ever. Ohio 's libraries are seeing record number of patron visits, hundreds of thousands of new card holders statewide, and huge increases in circulation.
So in these rough financial times, I am pleased to chair the 2009 OLC Convention and Expo which is centered around what is most near and dear to the hearts of us all—books! Join your colleagues from across the state in revisiting the book, the core of what we do as public librarians. |
We select them. We order and catalog them. We read and recommend them. When people are asked what they most associate with public libraries, they still consistently say, “Books!” Books remain the public library's brand. |

So whether we select, acquire, catalog, read and refer to them; whether we BOOKmark Web PAGES; whether we read them in print, online, in downloaded format, or listen to them, books remain at the heart of what we do and what we as librarians love about libraries. OLC's 2009 Convention is focused on the book and the program committee seeks sessions that reflect the multitude of ways in which public libraries employ the book as the continuing cornerstone of their mission and work. |
