Adult Literacy Assistant - Lexington (KY) Public Library

POSITION
Librarian Assistant: Adult Literacy Assistant,
part-time, approximately 20 hours per week. Incumbents are required to work
a flexible schedule, which includes evenings, Saturdays and Sundays, in
support of the public service hours.

DUTIES:
Provides direct assistance to Outreach Service
programs and support to adults with Basic Literacy skills or for whom English
is a second language. Performs technical and clerical duties in support
of the Outreach functions of the library system. Direct contact with the
public, explaining and providing the services of the public library is the
major role of this position. Develops and implements book discussion groups
for adults in target audience.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Graduation
from high school supplemented by at least two years of college level coursework;
or any equivalent combination of experience, which provides the required
knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be fluent in Spanish with knowledge
of Latino culture (particularly Mexican culture), as well as ability to
appreciate other cultures. Possession of a valid, current Commonwealth of
Kentucky driver's license with no moving violations and a safe driving record
is required.
