Would you like to offer library programs that reflect the richness and diversity of your community?
- The Diversity Fair was introduced by the
ALA's Office for Literacy and Outreach to the Annual Conference in 1997. It highlights diversity-in-action
initiatives from outreach librarians across the country and encourages librarians offering diversity programs,
activities and services in local libraries to share their resources with others.
- A project of the Association of American Colleges and Universities, Diversity
Web is a comprehensive compendium of campus practices and resources about diversity in higher education.
- Looking for cultural holidays and celebrations? Try the multicultural event calendar compiled
by Creative Cultural Communication, the Diversity Calendar hosted by
the University of Kansas Medical Center, the Diversity
Calendar developed by public libraries in Colorado, and KIDLINK's KIDPROJ
Multicultural Calendar.
- Celebrate El dia de los ninos/El dia de los libros on April 30. It is a day to celebrate the joys and
wonders of childhood and the importance of books in our lives. The State Library of Ohio offers this
El Dia brochure (PDF) for libraries to distribute.

offers ideas and
resources for celebrating this holiday. Here is an

- Planning a Day of the Dead (El Dia de los Muertos) celebration? The North of Boston Library
Exchange offers a great resource list of links

Ohio, area performers: the bilingual musical group Ga-Li, led

- Web resources to serve Latino
children and young adults in libraries and schools.
- Storytimes
for librarians of limited Spanish.
- Bilingual library programs for children
and families and bilingual tips on reading to
your child.
- The Diversity Tool Kit,
designed for public libraries, includes a calendar of cultural events, a bibliography of selected ethnic
resources, and bookmarks highlighting ethnic events.
- Trix Bruce is a workshop presenter and ASL performer who performs and presents
her One Deaf Woman Show nationwide. Trix offers a variety of shows reflecting deaf culture, American Sign Language and American
popular culture, and several DVDs of performances available for purchase.
- The Tucson-Pima (Arizona) Public Library offers display,
programming and outreach suggestions for National GLBT Book Month, celebrated each June to increase the
recognition of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender literature.
- The Children's Book Council presents Library
Outreach to Hispanic Children, an overview of outreach activities and programs at public libraries.
