As a Youth Services Work Group member in one of 17 locations, you would be joining an outstanding team of nearly 40 creative and forward-thinking librarians, library assistants, library outreach workers, clerks, and child development specialists who are committed to providing the best possible traditional and cutting-edge library service to children and young adults, both in our buildings and in the community.
No experience is required; however, two years' of professional librarian experience is desirable. Youth services experience is preferred. Applicants must have an understanding of theories of children and adolescent learning and development and their implications for library service from birth through high school. Additionally, qualified applicants must have knowledge and experience with current and retrospective children’s and young adult literature, periodicals, audiovisual materials, websites, electronic media, and other materials that constitute a diverse and relevant youth collection. All applicants must have or be within 3 months of receiving an ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library Science or equivalent. Must speak, write, and read fluent Spanish and English. Candidates will be tested on both their Spanish and English written and oral abilities. Must be a member or have close affiliation, knowledge of or extensive experience with the Hispanic community, demonstrated by knowledge of the traditions, values and customs of the community being served.
