03/06/07 Kent State University and OCLC to Host Library Careers Night on March 20

Careers in library and information science are diverse and numerous, and on March 20, 2007, at OCLC Online Computer Library Center in Dublin, Ohio, professionals in the library and information science professions will be exhibiting at Library Careers Night.

Sponsored by Kent State University's School of Library and Information Science and OCLC, Library Careers Night will provide an opportunity for students, library and information specialists, and current library specialists to explore a wide array of career possibilities in this dynamic and growing field as well as offer professionals the opportunity to showcase their libraries and services to future and current librarians.

Over 25 exhibitors will be on hand, represented by professionals in academic, public, law, medical, historical and school librarianship, and experts from industry organizations including the Ohio Library Council, the Academic Library Association of Ohio, and the Ohio Educational Library Media Association.

After three highly successful Library Career Nights held on the Kent State University campus since 2003, Library Careers Night in Columbus, Ohio has been designed to accommodate the ever growing student and employer base in the central and southern part of the state.

The event will begin at 5:30 pm with a panel discussion, moderated by Richard Rubin, Director of the Kent State School of Library and Information Science. Members of the panel will represent diverse areas of the information profession and will discuss current trends, career opportunities, and answer questions from the audience. Exhibits will be on display from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm in the Smith Building Conference Center on the OCLC campus, 6565 Kilgour Place, Dublin, Ohio. No reservations are required, and the event is free and open to the public.

Kent State University offers the only graduate program in the state leading to a Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree accredited by the American Library Association. Since 1975, Kent State has offered this program on the west campus of The Ohio State University. By consistent attendance at the Columbus program, a student may earn all the credits needed for a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science.
