3/30/10 Pew Research Rates OPERS as a “Solid Performer”
In its most recent report on the state of public retirement systems in the U.S., the Pew Center on the States rates the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System as a "solid performer" for its pension and non-pension obligations. Pew analyzed 231 state-administered pension plans and 159 retiree health care and other benefits plans. Pew rated OPERS' fund ratio at 87%, meaning for every $1 of pension obligation, OPERS has 87 cents “in the bank” to meet those obligations. Talking points
about the Pew rating of OPERS as well as the entire 66-page report
on public pension plans throughout the country are available on the OLC Web site.
