05/14/12 OLC Seeks 2013 Convention and Expo Chair
The Ohio Library Council is seeking a dynamic, visionary leader to Chair the 2013 Convention and Expo (C&E), Oct. 9-11, at the Kalahari Resorts in Sandusky.
The C&E Chair is the general chair of the Convention who appoints the Program Chair, the Local Arrangements Chair, and the Expo Chair. The C&E Chair determines and develops the event's theme or focus. All appointed chairs work with the OLC staff to assure the success of the event.
All OLC members are eligible to apply for this volunteer leadership position. Applicants are asked to complete this questionnaire that includes seven questions about their interest in this leadership role. The deadline to apply for C&E Chair is the close of business on June 15.
Meg Delaney from the Toledo-Lucas County Public Library was the 2011 C&E Chair and the first person to apply for the position using the questionnaire process. Meg’s reflections on serving as the C&E Chair follow.
“Chairing the 2011 OLC Convention and Expo was one the most challenging but, by far, one of my most rewarding experiences. This is a task that requires strong project management, people management, and leadership skills. It requires a certain amount of creativity and risk taking - and time…lots of time. More time than you have spent on almost any other professional project.

All the survey responses will be forwarded to the OLC Appointments Committee for review and candidate selection. The questionnaire responses will be shared with this committee anonymously. The committee-selected C&E Chair candidate will be presented to the OLC Board of Directors at its meeting on July 20 for official approval.
