05/19/05 OLC Needs Your Feedback: Identifying Challenges in Today's and Tomorrow's Public Libraries
The hallmark of the Ohio Library Council's success over the years has been its ability to recognize and respond to the challenges impacting public libraries. The organization, through its volunteers and staff, has kept in touch with the needs of the members and implemented effective programs and services in response to the concerns of libraries.
While the process of monitoring the challenges in today's public libraries is constant and ongoing, it's sometimes necessary for the organization's leadership to take an in-depth look at the members' needs and make sure that our responses are and continue to be effective. Member feedback and anecdotal evidence are vital in this process to complement the secondary research data that's constantly reviewed and analyzed.
On July 14, the OLC Board of Directors, staff, and several members from various areas of library service will spend the better part of a day talking about the challenges facing public libraries. Our goal is to drill down into the day-to-day concerns among staff and trustees and analyze the barriers so that Ohio's public libraries remain the best the nation.
The OLC recognizes that funding is probably at the root of many of the challenges for public libraries. However, for the purposes of the board's analysis, we're looking for the challenges that will arise as a result of funding cuts and other concerns within your community. We're asking you to tell us about the challenges to your role in the library and what issues have a significant impact on your effectiveness.
Take a moment to give us your feedback. Please complete this online survey by June 30.
Your participation is vital to the success of this process and critical in aligning the services of your professional organization to meet your needs. Thank you for your participation.
