6/3/10 Library Testimony on HB 400 - Elimination of the State Income Tax

Debbie O'Connor, Director, Geauga County Public Library, testified before the Ohio House Ways and Means Committee on May 26, 2010, on HB 400, the legislation that proposes the elimination of the state income tax. Although it is not anticipated that this legislation will move in this session of the General Assembly, it is important for legislators to understand the impact that the elimination of the income tax would have on public libraries.

A copy of the testimony is available for review. As always, O'Connor was well-received by legislators who were VERY supportive of public libraries. Many of the legislators asked questions that reflected positively on libraries. Rep. Kathleen Chandler (D-Kent) expressed her strong support of libraries, and explained that she felt that libraries had taken enough budget cuts and that libraries should not be cut any more. Other legislators spoke about the importance of the public libraries in their communities.
