6/15/11 Task Force Releases Report on Local Government Reform and Collaboration
In August 2010, the Ohio Local Government Reform and Collaboration Commission issued its final report. The commission took 18 months to examine a variety of issues that impact the efficiency and effectiveness of local government service delivery. One of the recommendations of this commission was: Encourage the State Library of Ohio to research issues of collaborations, mergers, and consolidation of library systems. The Commission recommends that the State Library of Ohio look at areas of services, delivery and costs and the benefits associated with various collaboration and consolidation models.
In response to this recommendation, the OLC and State Library of Ohio formed a Task Force to review the Ohio Local Government Reform and Collaboration Commission's recommendation. Its report will be formally presented to the State Library of Ohio Board of Trustees at its meeting on June 16.
The report takes a look at the history and unique nature of Ohio's public libraries as compared to those around the country, existing research, and new data, and applies the information to two case studies to hypothesize what would happen if the sample libraries were merged.
