6/24/08 Provisions of SB 185 Now in Effect
As a reminder, the provisions of SB 185, the multi-faceted library legislation passed by the Ohio General Assembly earlier this year, are now in effect. Effective June 20:
- the Ohio Open Records Law (HB 9) now includes school district public libraries;
- the number of Ohio public libraries is limited to the existing 251;
- the title of the library clerk-treasurer is now fiscal officer;
- public libraries are now allowed to require their employees to participate in direct payroll deposit;
- the time for advertising open bids for contracts over $25,000 is now 14 days (rather than 30 days);
- OPLIN is now in permanent law; and
- the Library and Local Government Support Fund (LLGSF) is now the Public Library Fund (PLF).
OLC publications and online references are being modified to comply with the new law.
