6/26/08 OLC Office to Move to Busch Corporate Complex
As announced in the January issue of Access, the Ohio Library Council has opted not to renew the lease on its current office space at 2 Easton Oval when the lease expires at the end of September 2008. After months of looking at numerous rental and purchase options in various locations around Columbus, the OLC has signed a new six-year lease agreement for office space at 1105 Schrock Rd. in the Busch Corporate Complex on the north side of Columbus.
The actual relocation of the OLC office will depend on the completion of the reconfiguration of the available space and selection of a moving date that will not conflict with an OLC event. The best-case scenario would have the move taking place during the last week of August, with the staff working in the new location just after the Labor Day holiday. Any delays will push the move into early to mid-September, requiring scheduling around the OLC Expo and Supportive Staff Conference.
Much like the current OLC headquarters, the new office will be accessible to members driving in from around the state to attend meetings and training. The new location is just off I-71 at OH-161, just south of the I-71 and I-270 interchange. The new space also offers meeting space similar to that of the Easton location plus another larger educational/conference room attached to the OLC space that will be maintained by the building owner. The new space also will include room for additional staff and/or interns as the OLC looks at the possible expansion or modifications to member services.
Finally, one of the significant advantages with the relocation is that the new space will offer the OLC a savings of approximately $25,000-$27,000 per year as compared to the current rental costs–money that can be invested into programs and services for the members.
