07/02/09 House Finance Committee Hearings
The OLC has been working through its contacts at the Statehouse to determine the OLC's role in these hearings. We also are conferring with our colleagues in organizations that represent other areas of local government to discuss how they plan to participate in the hearings.
For the moment, the OLC plans to monitor Thursday's hearing and possibly Monday's to determine whether any statement made by the OLC on behalf of public libraries at these hearings will be to our advantage. If our participation is warranted, testimony by the OLC on behalf of all public libraries will probably be most effective. However, this is subject to change at any time, and the OLC will contact library directors regarding individual libraries' involvement. At this time, it does not appear that it will be necessary to have a “show of force” from the public library community at the hearings.
