7/17/07 ALA Emerging Leaders Program
The American Library Association has announced the continuation of its successful Emerging Leaders program. The goal of the program is to enable new librarians to get on the fast track to professional leadership opportunities in ALA and their state chapters. The target group is librarians who are 35 years of age or younger, or those with less than five years of library experience.
At its 2007 Annual Conference, the ALA completed is first Emerging Leaders program. Wendy Rawson, Worthington Libraries, and Rachel Rubin, Columbus Metropolitan Library, participated in the program. They attended the Emerging Leaders sessions at the ALA Midwinter Meeting in Seattle and the ALA Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
More information and applications for the 2008 ALA Emerging Leaders program can be found on the ALA Web site. Applications are due by August 15. Sixty open application candidates and 60 sponsored candidates will be chosen.
The OLC will provide $1,000 each for up to two Ohio candidates to assist with travel expenses to attend the Emerging Leaders sessions at the 2008 ALA Midwinter Meeting in Philadelphia and Annual Conference in Anaheim.
