7/23/07 OLC Endorses ALA Resolution on National Security Letters
At its meeting on July 13, the OLC Board of Directors voted unanimously to endorse the ALA Council's "Resolution on the Use and Abuse of National Security Letters – On the Need for Legislative Reforms to Assure the Right to Read Free of Government Surveillance." With the endorsement of this resolution, the OLC supports the ALA 's concerns about the USA PATRIOT Act and the ways in which it chills intellectual freedom and threatens the privacy of library users. We ask that you support the effort to repeal or change sections of the USA PATRIOT Act and restore fundamental protections and rights assured by the United States Constitution.
A letter regarding the OLC's endorsement and a copy of the resolution have been sent to all of Ohio 's members of Congress.
