8/6/10 OLC Announces 2011 Membership Dues Rates
At its meeting on July 16, the OLC Board of Directors reviewed a report from the Membership Task Force regarding its recommendations for 2011 Institutional and Individual Membership Dues. The Membership Task Force report was a result of more than seven months of review of the OLC's financial situation, reports from membership surveys, a critical review of several membership structure and dues formula options, and discussion of the current and future financial challenges for Ohio's public libraries.
After discussion, the OLC Board took the following actions:
OLC Institutional Membership Dues rates for 2011 will remain at the same level as those in 2010. There will be no increase in libraries' Institutional Membership Dues for the next calendar year.
This Board action should accomplish several objectives: (1) it keeps the OLC's revenue situation stable; (2) a freeze will hopefully be acceptable to the membership, as most libraries do not expect expenses to drop and typically budget for flat or increased expenditures; and (3) it allows more time for the Membership Task Force to explore potential membership structure and dues formula modifications and then introduce possible changes for the 2012 membership year.
OLC Individual Membership Dues for 2011 will remain based upon a sliding scale of the individual member's annual salary, but the number of membership bands will be reduced from the current 26 to a new total of nine (see table below). The dues rate for each new membership dues band have been set based upon the median dues rates of the multiple salary ranges from the previous structure that were combined to create the new bands.

This Board action accomplishes the objective of maintaining and simplifying the OLC Individual Membership Dues structure, and limits substantial membership dues increases for Individual Members.
The OLC Membership Task Force will continue to monitor the membership situation and, in conjunction with the Board, analyze the organization's current financial situation to determine what modifications may be necessary in the future. More information will be provided in subsequent membership communications.
