10/5/11 Information Available on Proposed Omnibus Legislation
The OLC Government Relations Committee (GRC) and staff have identified a number of issues affecting public libraries that may be remedied through legislative action. GRC members and staff have drafted a list of 14 potential changes or additions that could be made to the Ohio Revised Code
that could provide public libraries with a new set of tools to address the challenges resulting from the current and future funding levels as well as other important concerns. At its meeting on Sept. 16, the OLC Board of Directors approved moving forward with drafting the legislation, which could be introduced later this fall.
Lynda Murray, OLC Director of Government and Legal Services, and Bill Morris, Governmental Affairs Coordinator, State Library of Ohio, will be available to answer questions about the proposed legislation when they staff a table in the Expo hall at the OLC Convention in Toledo, Thurs., Oct. 27, 9:00-11:00 a.m. and 2:00-5:00 p.m. Members are welcome to stop by to find out more about how this legislation will benefit public libraries.
In addition, in the next couple of weeks Lynda Murray will present a webcast about the proposals (date: TBA) and library directors, fiscal officers, trustees, and staffs will be able to learn more about the legislation by attending meetings that will be hosted around the state later this fall.
