11/17/06 Implementation of Minimum Wage Increase
Gongwer's reports that lawmakers continue to review the impact of the minimum wage increase to determine what, if any, changes must be made to state law. The constitutional amendment increases the state's minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.85 an hour, with built-in inflationary adjustments, becomes effective January 1, 2007.
While the Ohio Fair Minimum Wage Amendment provides that "laws may be passed to implement its provisions and create additional remedies" as long as they don't restrict the amendment's provisions, the legislature continues to review whether any statutory adjustments are needed in the short term.
The ongoing review includes a check as to whether or not current statute is in conflict with the amendment's provisions, and whether any statutory implementation language is warranted.
