11/19/09 Auditor of State to Offer Cost-Saving Alternatives for Some Audit Clients
Ohio Auditor of State Mary Taylor has issued a statement
indicating that before the end of 2009 her office will be changing its policies to allow the use of Agreed-Upon Procedures (AUPs) to alternate with financial audits for certain government clients with good audit histories. According to Taylor’s office, AUPs offer a high level of accountability for the client and community, but because they are less time consuming, eligible clients see lower audit costs. This action is being taken in an effort to alleviate some of the economic pressures felt by local governments and public libraries. The Auditor’s statement provides details regarding the differences between a financial audit and an AUP, and the plans to expand the list of those eligible to request an AUP.
This cost-saving move by the Auditor is in addition to decision in September 2009 to waive the $50 per month hardware surcharge for public libraries using the Auditor of State’s Uniform Accounting Network (UAN) software system. More information is available at www.auditor.state.oh.us.
