12/3/09 OPERS Alternative Plan Design Webcast
Lynda Murray, OLC Director of Government and Legal Services, has produced a webcast in which she presents an overview of OPERS Alternative Plan Designs that have been submitted for the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System. OPERS is considering recommending that the General Assembly increase the service years from 30 to 32, increase the number of years averaged to determine benefit level from the highest three to the highest five, and increasing from $250 to $1,000 the average monthly salary required for eligibility. Much of the focus of the proposals has been on how to "grandfather" current employees into the new proposals. The legislation is expected to be introduced in early 2010.
