12/18/07 Advocates of Paid Sick Leave File Petitions
Gongwer reported that a labor-led coalition plans to file petitions this week to support a bill that would require businesses to provide workers up to seven paid sick leave days per year. The Ohioans for Healthy Families' proposal would require companies with 25 or more employees to allow full-time workers to earn seven days of paid sick leave per year. Part-time employees would earn a pro-rated number. The group hopes to have legislation introduced in the Ohio General Assembly early next year. If the legislature fails to enact the bill, more signatures would be collected in an effort to place the proposed law on the November 2008 general election ballot.
